Day 2: The World According to Vincenzo

"Che vita de cani." --Vincenzo di Folco

On Monday, we traveled to the town of Arpino, birthplace of Cicero and known as land of the “Olives.” We met Vincenzo Di Folco, an olive grower, who spent time teaching us about the cultivation of olive trees in order to produce the best extra virgin olive oil. He gave us a tour of his family’s frantoio, traditional olive oil mill, then invited us to his family estate where he hosted an olive oil tasting and served us a farm-to-table family-style lunch.

Check out Vincenzo's products and learn more about the agricultural coop by visiting the website, Agricola Di Folco.

Our historical tour for the day was Torre di Cicerone (The Tower of Cicerone), rumored to belong to the family of Cicero. We had time to stroll the grounds, take photos, and enjoy the scenery and architecture.

Vincenzo's Wine...
While superior extra virgin olive oil is definitely Vincenzo's world, he also makes some fantastic wine! During lunch, he filled carafes for the table from steel vats in the room. He would also stroll over periodically and fill his own glass.
